FAN Courier's main logistics hub at Stefanesti — the third extension of a complex PPAE has been designing since 2007. With this stage completed in 2025, the complex reaches approximately 64,000 sqm and consolidates the largest operational base of the leader of the Romanian courier market.

Challenges

The project meant extending a hub in full operation, without interrupting the daily sorting flows. Beyond the scale of the investment — 30,000 sqm and 14 building bodies — the solutions had to be calibrated for FAN Courier's target of carbon neutrality by 2030, in a building typology known as a major energy consumer: a logistics hall with dozens of docking gates around its perimeter.

Solutions

Operational continuity was solved through a 92 m suspended technological walkway that houses two sorting lines and connects the new hall with the existing one — the parcel flow extends without relocation.

To reduce the energy footprint, the project adopted three solutions rarely seen in this typology:

• Sealing air-locks in front of each docking gate. In a building with gates around almost the entire perimeter, this measure significantly reduces the heat loss caused by permanent openings — the energy weak point of any logistics hub.
• Underfloor heating in the sorting and storage areas. A solution rarely encountered at industrial scale, providing uniform thermal comfort with lower consumption than conventional air-heater systems.
• Large-scale photovoltaic installation on the roofs — over 400 kW installed power, one of the most substantial photovoltaic outputs associated with an industrial project in the PPAE portfolio.

The extension also adopts the architectural language defined earlier for FAN Courier's regional hubs — the secondary perforated sheet-metal envelope on a steel structure, the brand's visual signature, applied here at the scale of the national base.

Result

With this stage, FAN Courier consolidates a national hub capable of supporting the company's growth for the next decade, aligned with its carbon-neutrality commitment. For PPAE, the project confirms a collaboration of nearly 18 years with the leader of the Romanian courier market — four successive projects on the same site.
